Another school bus accident took place in New Jersey yesterday, as authorities are continuing to investigate a fatal school bus accident that took place in Chesterfield last week.
Tuesday's accident took place in Cumberland County, New Jersey. The collision involved a school bus, a truck and two cars. Seven children and a driver were hospitalized after the accident, but no one seemed to be seriously injured. Last week's tragic school bus-dump truck accident in Burlington County, New Jersey, killed an 11-year-old girl.
The victim is the daughter of a New Jersey State trooper. She was a triplet, and both of her sisters remained hospitalized this week. One of her sisters was in stable condition, the other in critical condition, according to recent news reports.
Several other children riding the bus were seriously injured.
The causes of both bus accidents remain under investigation.
For any accident involving a large vehicle such as a bus or truck, it is imperative to determine the underlying issues that may have contributed to a crash. Investigations of truck and bus accidents can be very time consuming because there are many layers of ownership, responsibility and insurance.
The state is reportedly awaiting the toxicology results of both drivers involved in last week's crash. Officials are also reviewing maintenance records of the bus and dump trump and the drivers' records.
The National Transportation Safety Board said its investigation could take about a year to complete.
Families of the victims may also choose to pursue personal injury and wrongful death litigation, which would result in additional investigations to determine who may be liable to compensate for medical and funeral expenses as well as pain and suffering.
